The Sooks are a surf rock/indie band from Eora/Sydney, Australia.
From jamming in their mate’s garage to playing packed-out rooms in some of Sydney’s hottest venues, The Sooks have been making waves with their fresh sound and infectious energy. Carving out their own space in the Australian music scene with their charm and catchy tunes, fans can expect a sound reminiscent of DICE, Rum Jungle, and The Terrys.
Since forming in 2022, the band’s rise has been one of steady growth and momentum. Starting out in small local venues, they quickly built a reputation for rowdy singalongs and high-energy sets. That buzz has seen them step up to headline iconic indie venues like OAF Gallery, Waywards and The Chippo Hotel, where they continue to develop their live show and grow their following.
The 2024 debut EP ‘Oyster Boy’ marked a key step in the band’s evolution, blending surfy, upbeat tracks with some sweet, heartfelt moments. The record represented a new level of artistic growth for the band and standout tracks, ‘Burn Me Out’ and ‘Figure It Out’, saw the band featured on major editorial playlists, including ‘Local Noise’ and ‘All New Rock’.
After making their festival debut over New Year’s with sets at The Great Escape and Good Gumnuts in Tasmania, The Sooks have been steadily growing their festival resume. This year they added The Big Chill Festival in Armidale to the list, giving them the chance to play to new crowds and continue pushing their sound beyond the Sydney scene.
Recently the band released their new single ‘Kickstarter’. Showcasing a more mature sound, the track was backed by a July/August east coast tour that featured a headline show in Sydney, along with supporting Press Club in Newcastle and Wollongong on their east coast run.
Now, The Sooks are gearing up for the second taste of the record with their brand-new single, ‘Sober (For The Second Time)’, due out in September. The track continues to build on their evolving sound, blending their trademark surfy, indie-rock energy with a touch of maturity and depth.
With a growing list of milestones, new music on the horizon and an ever-growing live following, The Sooks are well and truly on the rise. They’re the kind of band that make you want to quit your job, call your mates and hit the road for a weekend you’ll half remember. Whether it’s an intimate venue or a festival stage, the band is carving out a fresh path in the Aussie indie scene - and they’re just getting started.
